Texas Memory Systems Launches the RamSan 210 Solid State Disk
According to Holly Frost CEO for Texas Memory Systems “the RamSan 210 will become the industry’s reference standard for solid state disks, all other solid state disks will be measured by how well they stack up to it.” The RamSan 210 will provide from 4 Gigabytes to 32 Gigabytes of SDRAM storage capacity and either 2 or 4 Fibre Channel interface ports in a 2U rack-mountable chassis. The RamSan 210 includes an industry leading 700MB/second backplane that can support over 200,000 random I/O’s per second. “Despite its diminutive size, the RamSan 210 will pack an enterprise-sized performance punch”, said Woody Hutsell Marketing Director for Texas Memory Systems, “our bandwidth and I/O’s per second capabilities continue to lead the industry by orders of magnitude. What further differentiates the RamSan 210 are its reliability and availability features.” Protecting and preserving data is an overriding design objective for the RamSan 210. Every write from host servers is written to the SDRAM and mirrored to two hot swappable hard disk drives. In the event of external power failure, the RamSan 210 can continue to operate because of redundant internal uninterruptible power supplies. After a user-defined period, the RamSan 210 will shut down and wait for power to be restored. When power is restored, the RamSan 210 will automatically reload SDRAM with the contents from the mirrored disk drives in under 15 minutes. “We believe that the RamSan’s triple mirroring feature provides customers the security they need in order to trust us to store their enterprise data on a solid state disk,” said Paul Kaler, VP of Technology for Texas Memory Systems, “previous implementations of solid state disk have relied on backup upon power failure modes that always seemed too risky to enterprise customers.” Unparalleled high availability is the final major design objective for the RamSan 210. The RamSan 210 includes more high availability features than any other solid state disk in its class. In addition to hot swappable hard disk drives for data retention, the RamSan includes redundant batteries, hot swappable power supplies, and hot swappable fans. Of high availability, Holly Frost CEO said “our objective is to meet and exceed 99.999% availability for the RamSan 210”. The best news
is that the RamSan 210, with all of its industry leading capabilities,
is expected to sell for a price well below the average in the industry. About Texas
